Santa Barbara - 88, New York - 45 (living in Santa Barbara will spoil you!)
I’m flying to New York for Rick and Renee’s wedding this weekend, and was a little shocked when I was told I should check the weather reports.
Santa Barbara had a record high yesterday of 88. I’m flying straight into 45 degree weather in New York today! YIKES! lol. And the really funny/sad thing is that I chose to wear my sandals. I don’t really know why, I thought it all through ahead of time and it was a clear choice to go with sandals and not shoes for the flight today.
Santa Barbara’s sea urchin - uni - is world renown
As an avid sushi fan I’m always seeking out new sushi restaurants. Everywhere we shoot weddings I ask around for the best sushi and give it a try. We actually found a pretty decent sushi restaurant in Maui where we photographed Jason and Megan’s beautiful wedding! I was talking to the chef at Sansei Sushi and he mention that their uni was straight from my hometown! I HAD to try it!
I’ve been told that at some point seal or sea lion hunting really wiped out the populations along the coast here and that in turn sea urchin went bonkers in taking over the ocean floor and that all of a sudden Santa Barbara became a mecca for the golden goodness! (honestly, I’m repeating something someone else told me, and I have no clue to the validity of all this.
All this to say, I was doing a fun shoot down at the harbor with my buddy Kenny recently and we stumbled upon the sea urchin boats unloading, and a kind fellow named Juan was showing the sea urchin to some curious tourists… being a curious person myself, I saw he was giving samples of uni straight from the fresh urchin, I couldn’t help myself but to ask for some, and I was immediately in heaven as I ate THE most fresh uni I have ever had, and it was AMAZING!!!
A HUGE thanks to Juan for the freshest uni EVER!
And that all said, I’m actually headed out the door to Arigato (my favorite sushi restaurant EVER) where I recommend you eat at least 50 times in your life!! And at least one of those 50 times try the Gold Shot!
Kenny as seen at ISO 3200 at a really slooowww shutter speed…
In the running for favorite wedding photographers…
If you like our work and feel like voting click this link and give us a quick vote! Who knows, maybe if we win we’ll throw a huge pizza party at our office and invite all of the blog readers to cruise in? (or, if I’m in a super happy mood, I might take everyone to Arigato!!! - ok, so I’m eating there tonight, but I LOVE that place!!!)
The wedding AND portrait photography client of the year award goes too….
WOW!!!
Seriously, WOW!!!
Cheryl and I drove down to Torrance a little over a week back now to photograph Josh and Michelle’s baby boy Milo. We shot their wedding last year in Palm Springs at the Vice Roy and had such a great time with them then, that we were biting at the bit to get some fun pictures of their little boy this year!!
Needless to say, we were chatting with them, and the subject of the iPod came up. We had just managed to lose our two-year-old iPod somehow and were trying to decide if we should jump and get one right away. They kept telling us how cool the iPod touch was, and how similar it is to the iPhone. (ALL of my wedding photographer buddies have iPhones and I’ve not fully caught onto the craze - until now!!)
Josh and Michele and Milo stoked us out sooooo much when out of the blue they got us an iPod touch!! It arrived at our doorstep the day after we did their portraits!
Having now played with the iPod touch I’m having a really really hard time holding back from wanting the iPhone. Basically the only difference is that the touch does not have 1)Mac Mail, 2)a phone, 3) a camera. Besides that, it’s basically an iPhone. It has wireless connectivity which is WAY awesome!!!
Now if I can just keep my money in my pocket until the second gen. iPhone comes out I should be pretty set!
THANK YOU Josh and Michelle and Milo!!!!!
