The surf is definitely up here in Santa Barbara!

My buddy Cody text’d me last night asking me what I was doing at 5 a.m. today… My immediately reply - Sleeping!

Next thing you know, he’s got me convinced that I need to wake up 4 hours earlier than I normally wake up to take pictures of the “epic” surf we’re getting here in Santa Barbara. Well, let’s just say I had a blast! Here’s the images I narrowed down to! (I know… freaking 12 pictures… sorry lol)

Here’s Rincon at sunrise (yes… I was there BEFORE sunrise!)

I saw at least three surfers come in with broken boards (or even no board at all) during the few hours we were there. Crazyness!

YIKES!!! (mind you I don’t surf cause I’m afraid of 1′ waves… so this was unreal for me to watch! these guys are like super-heros!)

It looks like he’s falling… but as you see in the next pic, he totally pulls it off. (if he was on a bike we’d call this a table top maybe… I think in surfing it’s called shredding?)

I posted like 100 pictures to our print server that you can check out by clicking here.

Usually when I show up somewhere to shoot, I feel pretty good carrying my gear around and looking “professional”… not the case when shooting a world famous location where a million other photogs are sitting around with CRAZY long lenses… I was nothing but average and below average today :-(

If you happen to be one of the burly dudes in these pictures and you’d like a full-res file for yourself, drop me a line at tim@halbergphotographers.com and I’d glady hook you up!

Our photos from today were just featured over at santabarbarasurfing.com!

Righteous captures dude! These guys were shootin’ out of the barrel and shreddin’ the face - well done!

(ok. I used to live in Newport & SB - and surfed the Wedge - I HAD to throw down some lingo! ) *snerk*

  19. Tim,
Nice shots of my son Neil. He called me right after he got out the water to rub it in. Wish I could have been there that morning.

  21. I wasn’t one of those burly dudes emailing you for a copy of their picture…Instead, I’m one of the wimpy photogs afraid of cold water writing you to say nice shots! :)

  29. Tim, you may want to show some of these to the BeachBreak Cafe on State Street. They are looking for surfer/beach art.

  33. Haha… nope, sadly I live in Santa Barbara as a wedding photographer, but I don’t even surf!! I shot these from shore with a Canon 70-200 2.8 L IS lens with a 2x converter attached… (next time I’m renting a 600 2.8 and putting the 2x converter on there!!)

Sooooo much fun! I love my job!
