January 2008

I can truly say I don’t think I’ve really really felt myself being inspired inspired since I was in New York after photographing Jack and Teresa’s wedding in New Jersey (ok, that sounds terrible, by inspired I mean pushed to reach an even higher level way beyond my imagination. I’m always inspired by the weddings I document and the people I photograph, but I’m talking about inspiration that is just mind blowing)

Now I am stoked to announce that I was so madly inspired yesterday!!! My good friend (and the man who documented my wedding) Michael Costa called me around 1 p.m. yesterday (about 30 minutes after arriving home from a 6 hour drive back from Brian and April’s wedding in Healdsburg). He asked what I was up to in 6 hours (who asks that?) I checked… no plans… so, what did you have in mind? The excitement in his voice as he invited me to cruise with him down to LA for “Photo LA” was enough and I didn’t ask too many more questions until we were in the car driving down.

Photo LA was insane. The first 45 minutes or so I felt like I’d just run into a wall with my brain. It was overwhelming. Then, suddenly, things started to pop out and I began to be inspired. I pulled out my moleskin and began writing notes, words, and ideas.

It was the perfect timing because I had just set a goal for myself on Wednesday to come up with a new project for myself to start shooting anytime I’m out and about. I’m so excited right now to go and shoot some fun new pictures and begin applying all of this to my weddings in 2008!

Here’s one of my favorite images that I saw by Patricia von Ah from her Lost Birds book/exhibition:

What would have been a “gloomy/wet” day in Southern California played out to be a beautiful and overcast almost wet day here in Northern California. We drove up today to the Madrona Manor in Healdsburg, California for Brian and April’s wedding and it turned out to be a really special and beautiful day!

This was a super special trip, because I got to travel up here and team shoot with the cinematographer from Bon Vivant Cinema who documented my wedding! What a blast!!! He’s an AMAZING cinematographer and I can’t wait to see what he came up with today. There are times as a photographer where I sit there and say to myself “wow, if only I had a video camera to capture this moment with…” Well, today that was all taken care of by my buddy Russ!

I’m really excited with the wedding photographs I was able to produce today and it reminded me about why I love my job soooo much!

This is by far my favorite picture of the day! The oranges were incredible. I seriously could have photographed these two in this orchard for two hours straight!

Santa Barbara Baby Portraits

This past Thanksgiving Tim and I went home to visit my family in Palm Springs and was so excited because the day after all the feasting, I got to meet my new baby niece Sydney Rebecca! She is super cute, and her older brothers just absolutely adore her! My sister gave birth to her on November 23rd and as you can see, she’s beautiful and healthy. She is now my youngest baby photographed, here in these pictures she is only 1hr old! So fun!

For 2008, one of our goals for Halberg Photographers is to expand our portrait services by adding Senior Portraits! We are so excited about this and can’t wait to photograph more high school seniors.

Austin, who works at one of Santa Barbara’s most chic clothing stores – Diani, was an awesome model! Her and I had such a blast on our portrait shoot. Check out some of my favorite pictures from the day:

Half way through the shoot her boyfriend joined us so we grabbed a few shots of the two of them together :)

I also put together a slideshow for Austin, you can see the rest of her pictures by clicking here

So I’m curious, what are some of your goals for 2008?
