Suneet and Majique’s Kohl Mansion Wedding - Burlingame, CA

Suneet and Majique had a very beautiful and special wedding at the Kohl wedding this last weekend. Their ceremony was really an experience starting out with a shortened version of a Hindu wedding ceremony followed immediately by a Christian ceremony.

The setting on the lawn with beautiful rays of sunlight streaming through the trees in the background made for an amazing ceremony. And then the party that followed was great. Indian people really know how to get down and have a good time!

Trials riding at Stoney Point Park in Chatsworth

I used to ride trials (a sport where you ride you bike over obstacles/rocks/cars… without putting your feet down) and just this last week a few of the local California riders got in touch with me and let me know of a ride this past weekend. So, Sunday afternoon I grabbed my bike and cruised down to Chatsworth for some fun riding on a bright sunny day. I managed to remember my camera and snagged these pictures of my buddy Shawn Miller riding a pretty sweet line in some rocks while a rock climber made his way up a route in the background!

Preparing for a through hike of the John Muir Trail

In less than 30 days my buddies Taylor, Phil and myself will be heading out to give a try at a 10-day (well, 9 1/2 day) through hike of the John Muir Trail from Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney.

I did this hike with Taylor probably 4 years ago now and it was an amazing experience - The trail is 220 miles long and a large majority of the trail was covered in snow last time we went, so we’re excited to see what it looks like when you can actually see the trail and the lakes aren’t all frozen over.

Today I sat down and ordered a bunch of new gear (last time we tried to have a base weight around 20 pounds or so, but this time I’m aiming for about 10 pounds!!!) and I also mapped out our mileages for each day. It looks like we’re going to have some constantly brutally long days on the trail which should make for a challengingly fun trip.

Here’s the predicted breakdowns for our hike:

Day 1 – 13.8 to Sunrise High Sierra Trail Camp

Day 2 – 24.2 to short of Marie Lakes Trailhead

Day 3 – 22.4 to Reds Meadow re-supply pick up

Day 4 – 26.4 to Pocket Meadow

Day 5 – 22.2 to Muir Trail Ranch trail head

Day 6 – 1 to muir trail ranch from camp 8 a.m. – Re-supply, then – (11.6 to muir pass base) 25.1 to Big Pete Meadow – short of Le Conte Canyon

Day 7 – 22 to Taboose Pass trail head

Day 8 – 23.4 to Vidette Meadow

Day 9 – 22.3 to short of Timberline Lake

Day 10 – 8.5 to Whitney Summit – 11 to Whitney Portal total of 19.5
Yeah… it’s tough to look at the mileages for each of those days, and seeing how outta shape I am right now, it will be interesting to see how we do with our goals. I’ve started training this week to try and prepare and can’t wait to see how we do pushing ourselves to the limits over and over.

Here are a few shots from our last hike of the JMT:

LOTS of snow!

Dan and Cara’s Santa Barbara Beach Wedding

Dan and Cara are truly one of the sweetest couples we’ve met. Everyone surrounding these two couldn’t say enough good things about them.

Cara used to work as a wedding planner at Sunstone Winery, so she knows the industry inside and out and had a stellar group of wedding professionals on hand to help create a beautiful and simple and fun wedding day!

We had a blast with these two hanging out on the beach taking photos on a BEAUTIFUL spring day here in Santa Barbara. You really couldn’t have asked for better weather.

Ok, and first up I have to share their wedding cake topper with you! They sent out and got their exact faces made into bobble heads! Seriously, ingenious! This is THE COOLEST wedding cake topper I have ever seen! (it was super funny when one of the guests decided to touch the head and see it bobble, well, it was a little top heavy and fell over on the cake, it was promptly placed back on top of the cake, but with cake all over the groom’s face! - I’ll add a picture of that soon) (I know you want to order your own, so click here and send them your picture) (Cara also mentioned that if you send them a close up picture of your face you will get a much more accurate representation of your look)

seriously, the coolest wedding cake topper ever in Santa Barbara

Two photographers named Tim riding their bikes in Santa Barbara

I recent got a mountain bike again. I used to race pretty serious and did bike trials, but once I went and started working for myself, my boss wouldn’t let me go out and ride nearly as much, but with the addition of my new mountain bike I’ve been riding more again.

My buddy Pat just hooked me up on a brand new bike this week and I was amped to get it built up and try it out on the trail. Well, my buddy and fellow photographer Tim Meyer had scheduled a ride with me yesterday, so I had the perfect chance to test out my bike and go riding for the first time since being sick last week.

Tim pushed me hard and we had a blast both breaking in fresh bikes. Here’s a couple quick point and shoot photos during a rest stop. (And just so happens this is the same exact spot where I got a quick flat while riding back down)

If you live in Santa Barbara and want to go mountain biking (and have a bike) hit me up! I need to get out more regularly!!!
