We’ve been prepping all week for our trip out to Kansas City for Cindy and Jeff’s wedding this weekend.

Kansas City Wedding engagement photos in Santa Barbara

Cindy is an amazing portrait and wedding photography in Kansas City and it’s a true honor to be asked to photograph her wedding. Definitely check out her website when you have a chance (just so happens we share the same flash guy, he ROCKS!!!)

This has already started out as a wild year for us, Cindy is the third photographer so far who’s wedding we’ve been hired to document, and we have two more photographers to go this year. It’s always a bit more pressure working for a photographer, but also really awesome because they usually allow us to go a little crazier and create even more art.

Here are a few shots I grabbed while Cindy and Jeff were visiting Santa Barbara last year before they got engaged. The images were created using a Holga camera with film that expired in the early 1980’s, AWESOME.

I can’t wait to shoot in Kansas, and since we’ve never been, we’re amped to try some BBQ while we’re there!!

Love this series! Beautiful. Holga + expired film = Amazing! I have been crazy busy working on a couple of films I love coming here for inspiration – and a little break from the chaos. Glad to hear that you are doing well and have taken on a third shooter. Sweet.

After going back for another look… and actually taking my time to READ and enjoy the beauty of this post again – I noticed that you shot another photographers wedding and that you had not taken on a third shooter… oops. Just the same it is great that you are doing well. Proof positive that I have to slow down a bit. lol.

Hey Tim! Thanks for the compliments on the ocean shot, glad to hear you’re still checkin’ in with The Bouchérs ;)

thanks man! amazingly enough, no photoshop overlays.. just super old-school film! too fun

Cheryl just emailed me yesterday to let me know she’d wrapped up our latest album design and that she thought we needed to order a sample album from this wedding, and she’s so right!

Jennifer and David’s wedding was amazing, so amazing that The Knot featured it last year in their magazine, and now we’re going to be featuring it for our future clients to see.

Nice, clean album layouts. This is what I love! What software are you guys using to display the album, it is great!

I had never photographed a wedding at Eucalyptus Lane before in Ventura, I’d heard stories, and they are were true, what a beautiful venue!!

Jeremy and Amber made our day super easy. Their wedding was full of tons of great details to fill the frame with and they were just totally relaxed and having a good time with no stress at all.

And can I say what beautiful light!!!! I don’t tend to run towards open shade even when it’s nearby, I usually like to challenge myself with more “difficult” lighting, but there was nothing but PERFECT and extremely beautiful open shade all over this property and we took full advantage of it all day!

Don’t forget to see all our favorites from their wedding by checking out the slideshow here.

Love the shots guys, great work. We just shot this location a couple months ago as well and it was gorgeous. Too bad they are closing it down to the public. Love the old fashion grainy post production on the last couple of images, really makes the shot!

I headed out for another night of photographing the Jesusita Fire here in Santa Barbara last night with my good buddy and awesome photographer Cody Duncan. (check out his site/blog to see lots of images from the fire this week)

First we headed toward the 154 because we heard rumors that the fire had already jumped the road there, but when we got there realized it hadn’t, but it was getting very very close. The fire crews were staging on the overpass so we grabbed a few shots there before heading up Old San Marcos Pass Road.

It was 81 degrees out all the way through the end of the night when we finally packed up around midnight…. Winds were still blowing strong…

These photos are from when we went up Old San Marcos Road and perched ourselves on the side of the road pretty much directly in the path of where the fire would jump the 154 and waited. When common sense kicked in as the fire started moving more our direction we headed home for the night absolutely covered in ash.

Amazing pics, Tiim. Glad the common sense kicked in! ;-)

In the bridge pics, was the sky actually red/orange? Or did you bring out stronger colors with Photoshop? Just curious. No matter – the colors are brilliant!

  2. Tim Halberg posted the following on May 9, 2009 at 10:16 am.

The Jesusisita Fire here in Santa Barbara is for sure lighting up the sky super red/orange…

No photoshop tricks here… just trying to balance things as I saw them when I was there… just wish I could capture the flames and sky together in the same exposure better… Walls of HUGE flames…

Wow, somehow in just a week I’ve managed to forget how absolutely insane these fires were. It’s good to have these pics as a reminder

The electricity went out on us today at work, so I packed up my stuff (grabbed all our hard drives from the office to keep them close/safe) and headed home to the Mesa where I found some views of the Jesusita Fire.

Until about 2:30ish today the fire looked like it was just smoldering with no interest in getting bigger… but when our electricity went out around 3:30/4 the fire had gone crazy and the sky had turned black over my business partner Ricky’s house.
